Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common bacterial infection that can cause discomfort and pain. Here are some tips to help prevent UTIs:

  1. Drink plenty of water

Staying hydrated is important to flush out bacteria from the urinary tract. Drinking enough water can help keep the bladder and urinary tract healthy.

  1. Urinate frequently

Holding in urine for too long can lead to bacteria buildup in the bladder, so it's important to urinate when you feel the need to go.

  1. Wipe properly

When wiping after using the bathroom, it's important to wipe from front to back to prevent bacteria from the anus from spreading to the urinary tract.

  1. Avoid irritating feminine products

Some products such as powders, douches, and sprays can irritate the urethra and lead to UTIs.

  1. Wear breathable clothing

Tight-fitting clothing can trap moisture and create a breeding ground for bacteria. Wear loose, breathable clothing, and cotton underwear to help keep the area dry.

  1. Practice good hygiene

Keep the genital area clean and dry. Avoid using harsh soaps or cleansers, and opt for gentle, fragrance-free products instead.

  1. Probiotics

Probiotics can help promote healthy bacteria in the body and prevent UTIs.

  1. Cranberry

Cranberries are found to reduce the risk of UTI as they contain a high amount of proanthocyanidins, which stop certain bacteria from sticking to urinary tract walls.

If you have recurrent UTIs, it's important to talk to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment options.
